Behind the wheel

Lac Léman Shoreline. The lake road toward Montreux runs past vineyard terraces and small harbour towns. A convertible or open-top GT suits this stretch better than a bulkier estate, and roadside parking near the villages is generally easy outside peak summer weekends.

Jura Foothills. West of the city, the roads climb gently through Nyon and into the Jura, with tighter bends rewarding a car with sharp steering and good grip. A half-day loop works well before returning the vehicle in the evening.

Chamonix and Mont Blanc. A cross-border run into France, this route trades flat lakeside driving for mountain gradients. Parking in Chamonix itself is limited during ski season, so an early departure from Geneva helps.

Verbier and the Alpine Passes. Higher and more technical than the Jura roads, the passes toward Verbier favour a GT or SUV with strong brakes and confident handling. Winter tyres are advisable for cold-season driving in this area.

Annecy and the French Border. A shorter cross-border option, Annecy's lakefront old town is reachable within a comfortable driving window. Weekend traffic near the centre can be dense, so a mid-week visit gives easier parking and a calmer pace.
